Prerequisites

In order to complete these work instructions, you must have the following prerequisites.

  1. Access to a Microsoft Azure subscription
  2. The appropriate user rights in Microsoft Azure to create a new resource
  3. Access to a Dynamics 365 Sales, Service, and Marketing instance

Create Application Insights Instance

After configuring the Application Insights instance, in the Left Hand Menu select “API Access” and copy the Application ID.

The Application ID is used in the configuration of the SaaS Insights reports in later steps.

 

Retrieve the Dynamics 365 Sales, Service, and Marketing API URL

A In order to gather detailed user information, the report requires the URL the Dynamics 365 system. To retrieve the URL please complete the following:

Open your CRM Environment
Click on the “Gear” in the upper left corner and select Advanced Settings.

Click the Settings drop down and select Customizations

Select Developer Resources

Note the Service Root URL

 

Setup SaaS Insights Report

After installing the Power BI Report App, select the option to Connect Your Data. When prompted enter your Application ID from the Application Insights configuration, the API URL to the Sales, Support, and Marketing system and your company name to be displayed in the reports.

You will be prompted to authenticate as a user with permissions to access the Application Insights system.
